Adele's mega album 21 has surpassed Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and landed in spot #7 on the UK's top selling albums of all time! Who can Adele possibly knock down next? Michael Jackson's Thriller! Adele is very close, but really far behind the #1 spot held by "Queen".
Adele dominated the 2012 Echo Awards this past Thursday. The superstar singer picked up both major awards for Album of the Year for 21, and Best Female International Artist. Adele just keeps on rolling, breaking records and scooping up awards like no other!
Adele's "21" album is very close to beating Usher's "Confessions". His album holds the current record for most albums sold in a year. "Confessions" sold more than 7.9 million copies, in one year!
Normally artists are not too happy when someone comes along and threatens to break their records. However, Usher is a world class guy. When he was asked by Capital FM about Adele possibly beating his record he responded:
"If I have to confess, I have to confess that I have told a few people not to go and buy Adele's album because I don't want her to go and break my record,"
Now I am pretty sure he was joking, however, there is always a little truth behind a joke. Usher's fame has declined a bit from his mega album and he definitely sees an opportunity brewing with Adele coming close to his record. During the interview he even hinted at wanting to do a collaboration with this years sensation, Adele.
I think the world deserves an Usher and Adele record," he said. "That's what I think."This would be the perfect opportunity to bring together two mega stars. With Adele's sultry voice and Usher's soulful voice it would be beyond amazing! I hope that Adele responds because this would be one amazing collaboration!
Adele's 21 has surpassed the late Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard as the longest number 1 album by a woman.
The tremendously successful album saw sales sky rocket after the 2012 Grammy Awards on February 12. 21 is celebrating its one year anniversary on the charts and last week sold a whopping 730,000 copies. This makes it her best sales week ever, outdoing the Christmas rush back in December.
Adele's 21 has now sold over 18 million copies worldwide!
It was another huge night for Adele, but this time at the 2012 BRIT Awards in London. She took home prizes for Best UK Female Artist and Album of the Year.
"It's been an amazing year. I'd like to thank my record company for letting me be the kind of artist I want to be," she said while accepting her first award.
During the show, she took to the stage for her second live performance since her throat surgery. Without missing a beat, she beautifully belted out "Rolling in the Deep."
